Invitation to NYO Come and Play

Dear Parents, Students and Musicians,

We would like to invite you to share the joys of orchestral music-making with musicians from the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain’s NYO Inspire Orchestra (NYO) in a fun and friendly afternoon/evening of activities on Tuesday 9 July 2019 at Nicholas Chamberlaine School, Bedworth.

What is NYO Inspire Orchestra?
NYO Inspire Orchestra is a team of dedicated teenage musicians from across the country, bound together by a love of orchestral music and who share a vision to inspire others. During their four-day tour of West Midlands secondary schools, NYO Inspire Orchestra would like to invite YOU to make music with them after school through this special NYO Come and Play.

Who can take part?
If you’re aged 13-19 and playing between Grades 4 – 8+, you are eligible to apply. The event is FREE, and comprises side-by-side rehearsals and activities where you’ll play alongside NYO Inspire Orchestra musicians and develop your orchestral skills.

How do I apply?
NYO Come and Play will take place at Nicholas Chamberlaine School and you can apply online at Applications will close Wednesday 12 June. Places are limited and allocated on a first come first served basis.

4.00pm (after school) Registration. Please indicate the time you are able to arrive after school on the registration form.
4.15pm – 7.00pm Rehearsals and activities


7.00pm – 9.00pm NYO Come and Play Sharing

(Open to friends and family of participants)

This opportunity is a unique partnership between three music services: Warwickshire Music, Coventry Music and Solihull Music Service. We are delighted to be working together with the University of Warwick and the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain to offer a new experience for our young orchestral musicians. The offer is open to students from Warwickshire, Solihull and Coventry and other young musicians from across the region.

Regional Strings and Youth Orchestra – September 2019

Regional Strings and Youth Orchestra

Solihull Music Hub is delighted to announce the creation of a regional Strings Orchestra
from September 2019.

This exciting new ensemble is a partnership between the music services of Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire and we hope to attract students from across the region to join this brand new group.

We are delighted to announce that the Regional Strings Orchestra will be directed by Mr.
Alex Laing, Artistic Director (Music) at the King’s High school in Warwick.
In addition to his role at King’s High Alex acts as coachand conductor of the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain and course director and conductor for the
National Youth String Orchestra of Great Britain.
It is also exciting to announce support from a range of partners including the Warwick
Schools’ Foundation and the University of Warwick Arts Centre. The Regional Strings
Orchestra will rehearse at the King’s High school in Warwick on Fridays from 7.00 – 9.00pm.
Members of the Regional Strings Orchestra will be advanced players of at least grade 6
standard and further details on membership will be available shortly.
