Please read below for information on how to apply, pay for and return hired instruments from Solihull Music Service


You are eligible to hire an instrument from Solihull Music Service if:

  • Your child has instrumental lessons with a Solihull Music Service teacher either at a school in Solihull or at one of our music centres.
  • Your child is a member of one of the music service ensembles.

How can I apply for instrument hire?

All applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis and hire is dependent on if we have instruments available. When the instrument is ready to collect we will contact you via email.

Please note your personal information will be handled in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

Collecting the instrument and paying the initial upfront hire charge

Once you have been contacted to inform you an instrument is available you will need to collect the instrument from the music service office.
On arrival you will be asked to complete and sign the completed hire agreement form and make your first £15.00 upfront payment for the term. (Please note we currently can only accept cash or cheques payable to Solihull MBC for this initial payment)

How will I be billed after the first term?

Solihull MBC will send an invoice for £15.00 at the start of every term the instrument is in your possession. Please note charges will continue to be applied until the instrument is returned to the music service office.

Costs for hiring a musical instrument 2020/21

The cost of hiring any instrument from Solihull Music Service is £15.00 per instrument per term.
Pupils who are entitled to Free School Meals or are a Looked After Child are able to hire an instrument at no charge. Please inform the office team when you request an instrument so they can process your request as appropriately.

My child requires a larger instrument

If you child requires a larger instrument you will need to contact the music service to see if an appropriate instrument is available. We will contact you once this is possible and ask you to return the smaller instrument and swap to the larger size.

Returning the instrument

You will need to return the instrument to the music service office if you are no longer eligible for instrument hire.

Please return the instrument to us if you:

  • Your child has terminated lessons provided by Solihull Music Service.
  • Your child is no longer a member of a music service ensemble.

You will be able to collect and return the instrument on the days and times shown below:

  • Monday to Thursday 9am -6.30pm
  • Friday 9am -3pm
